I'm going to whinge. Why? Because I like to, and I honestly haven't done that in a while. And I haven't really properly 'broken in' this blog with a rant. :)
I spent the day writing up 9 listings that went on eBay - 3 more than my first day of work, so it's sort of an improvement, I guess. Had my momentum broken with people coming into the store asking general listing queries and the like, and I also had to spend time checking items into our inventory for customers. Had to check in 36 lots of comics, among other things. >.<
It wasn't such a bad day at work, all things considered. Submitted my tax declaration form and bank account details, so yay, the boss now has all the details he needs to pay me my wages. :D Am also getting a couple more hours next week too, so only thing I can whinge about there is that my back is going to be more sore in the evenings after work. *sigh*
Lastly, on a totally unrelated issue, I wish some people wouldn't lecture others on things they obviously know nothing about. What a farce. Bleah.
I'm starting a new job on Thursday. Eeeeeep.
It's going to be a trial period, and I haven't even sorted out the wage rates and days yet, but I'm actually going to be employed. I shouldn't be too happy and expectant in case the business winds up tomorrow or something. *touchwood* The boss is young at only 30 (and a spunk in a IT geek sort of way), but so nice, and very easy to talk to. I should probably delete this post now in case it comes back to bite my sorry ass at some later stage because it's work related. :D Small company, young staff, and from what I could tell from two interviews there, a similar work environment to my previous place of employment, minus the toys. Which is great (but would be better with the toys). The Ops Manager seems keen to get me on board as a store manager, but as I've not done done a managerial role before, I wussed out and asked if I could probably be put on as a PT staff and if I was settling in alright in a few weeks, to then switch to FT and train for the role. I hope they didn't take it in a negative way and that I wasn't interested, or didn't have enough drive - I'm just being cautious. Maybe a wrong move on my part?
Anyway. Work! Thursday! 10am start! 4 days a week! I can't wait. Best of all, I get to go on the internet at work, and its PART OF THE JOB. :D
Dead tired now, and for once, I think I might be going to bed before 2am. :D In fact, at around 9.30pm to be exact. Left the house at quarter to 8 this morning to catch my 40 minute train ride to the location for a job fair, and thankfully after 2 1/2 hours I'd gotten through the rounds of fun and games and those lala team building assessments and gained an one-on-one interview. Hopefully, I'll find out if I've gotten through to the next round within the next fortnight. Then, went to meet up with Sassie for a dolly meet. She'd just started collecting Blythes and was so eager to meet other Blythe collectors in real life, that she didn't quite mind it was just me (and Roo and Kenn) turning up. She's a lovely lovely person. We ended up chatting about dolls for 5 hours!! Alana popped by for the meet too; wasn't expecting her since she'd said the night before that she thought she wouldn't be able to make it, so it was great to see her there. Later, went to meet Eva during her work break and hey, more dolly talk!
I must have gotten up on the right side of the bed today because the jobs that I've applied for this week have all requested me back for an interview. Wheeee! Going to go for an interview tomorrow for a job that's coffee related, so I'm brushing up on last minute facts. It's been sooo long since I've last worked with coffee! 6 years! It's funny when I stop to think about it - all the jobs I'm being called back for are all retail related, but in different industries: one's for books and music, one's for coffee, and one's eBay/auction related. Weird shite.
I'm up baking brownies at nine in the morning, and am also giving the girls some last minute touch ups before the meet this arvo. Hopefully, the girls' dresses won't end up too wrinkled at the party, but I've got no choice but to carry them in a box for the meet. I couldn't find anything else decent enough that would fit all 6 girls - fleece reroots and pigtails included! Carrying that and trying to balance my beast of a camera plus brownies enough to feed 10, and all my usual junk that I carry with me is going to be ... interesting. :) There shall be loads of photos, of course!
Speaking of interesting, I've been receiving some interesting emails from a guy I met last sememster while I was still at uni. He was an international student from Spain doing a Masters in some building related discipline and we'd met at the postgrad orientation function. I'd met him that morning, and parted ways with him six hours later. Never bumped into him at uni since. How do you let a guy down like that easily? I'm rather amused by the whole thing, really.
Oooops, brownies are about done! Fingers crossed that they're going to turn out fine!!!
Update: Brownies are out, and thankfully, the oven held up. Have added a photo of the extras that we're going to be having at home. :)
Finally managed to stop procrastinating and have finished sewing up all six dolly party dresses. Not without some help from the telly though - so thank you SVU, Boston Legal, Scrubs and CSI for keeping me company. I'm still not quite happy with the way I'm sewing the party dresses; so I guess I'll be practising with a couple more when I'm up to it. But for now, I'm busy making tsumami flowers - some for the girls to accesorise with and also some for sale. The one Kenn is wearing right now is made from the remnants of the fabrics used to make her dress and lining. The sudden creative/productive spurt is probably due to the fact that I can't stand not doing anything all day other than job hunting online and in the papers.
I also got the shites with James today over the phone cos he was being totally unreasonable. Everything was going well over the phone and they I casually mentioned that one of my girlfriend and I were thinking we should save up for a trip to Japan in the spring of '08. He got a little narky with me at that point, and was upset that I should consider going to visit Japan without him! Oh, the audacity on my part! To clarify, he and I have always wanted to visit Japan together (specifically, Kyoto for all its own world charms); but I never thought that it was going to be a big deal if I visited the country first without him. Apparently, it is. It's supposed to be something special and memorable that we do together. Hrm. Well. I can't see how me having visited the country before our YET UNPLANNED trip could even alter the experience with him. And they say girls are hard to comprehend. Funny thing is, the trip with my girlfriend probably won't even go ahead. :)
I'm never one to be bowled over by automobiles on the road, and was never that keen on getting my driver's licence right after I was of legal driving age (I only sat for my Learner's test 2 years ago, and that was just so I could get some form of Australian id because I was sick of having only my passport to rely on in this country for photo identification purposes.). I have a close friend from uni who's huge on cars - she knows all the terminology and types, and aspires one day to own some fancy imported supercar and work for some giant automotive company, and whenever I'm with her in her car on the road, she'd excitedly point out the spiffy yellow Porsche Boxter and list all its specs, and I have to concentrate on stifling a yawn. (We're cool about that though.) But a couple of months ago, James got me hooked on the BBC2 show 'Top Gear', and now I watch it religiously every week. I still don't know much about car specs, but I love all the stupid and useless stunts they pull on the show. I've just caught the episode (on Youtube) with the caravan holiday, and it cracked me right up. I think it's ingenious that the creators of the show make it so that it's informative, but yet, appeals to a wide range of audience.
This was a rather pointless entry, but my head's full of five and a bit hours of Top Gear episodes and snippets (not to mention words like 'v12, 6 cylinders, horsepower, etc), and I need shut-eye. :)
That's the ratio of finished dolly dresses to unfinished ones. *pulls hair out*
I'm trying to make a set of 6 dresses so that my 6 able bodied girls (Punchi's not going since she's just a head after donating her body to Kenn.) can go to the dolly meet/party next Sunday in style. They're going to be in the Puchimadam's party dress style, and in polka dotted fabrics of different colour. I know what you're thinking; but hey, they're just dolls, NOT actual people, so I've no qualms in dressing them in matching outfits. :)
In other happenings of the day, my mom's finally found a financial institution that will allow us to sign up for a Visa debit card, thank lordy. I've tried applying for one since relocating to Melbourne at the start of the year, but all the banks that I've approached either don't do debit cards, or don't allow non citizens or permanent residents to apply for them. Which is stupid, since a debit card's essentially like an ATM card. It frustrates me to death because it really mucks up my online transactions which are all still currently being done through my Singapore debit card. Think additional usage AND currency conversion fees - both of which I don't need. Grrr. But anyhoo. We've found a bank that actually has some common sense, and hopefully my application will be approved in a week. *fingers crossed*
This weekend's going to be spent finishing up the dresses, going to church and watching anime on Youtube. My life's thoroughly action-packed at the mo. What are you doing this weekend?
I'm still on the hunt for a job, and like anyone who's been on the active search for a while, I'm getting really frustrated with the lack of positive responses I'm getting. I've finally gotten in touch with my ex-boss (who'd I've been in constant contact with through email up to maybe 2-3 months ago), and she's now prepared should any prospective employer of mine decide to give her a buzz to find out how big of a skiver I was at work. :D It sucks too cos the job I had before my stint with this ex-boss is pretty much non-existant now; the outlet of the coffeeshop franchaise I worked at is no longer around, and as far as I know; the manager I was under has quit and I have no clue where she is now. So, I'm rather stint on the referees' list. Plus, my visa-type is a little unusual, so employers would probably go for someone who's a citizen or a PR than have to deal with the little-known. *shakes fist*
So in between sending out applications with CVs attached and waiting for replies, I've been sewing stuff for the girls. And now with Kenn-chan's arrival, I've been having so much more ideas on what dresses to make next. I've always wanted a redhead in the family (I lusted over a PWP when I first got into Blythes, but never did own one), and now I've got one (and she's a Kenner to boot!), so I'm over the moon. Plus, all the trial and error with my sewing is good in two sense: I'm brushing up on my skills so hopefully I can start selling stuff to the dolly community and not feel worried that the hem might come undone; and the rejects are still happily lapped up by my girls at home. :)
One of my efforts in sewing dolly clothes this week - proud to say that I'm getting quicker in hand sewing (take that, sewing machines!!), so this dress set was churned out in half a day. Took me a while to fix up the tie though - I've never had to tie one that was that tiny!! TJ was quite happy and pleased to model the dress for me too; poor girl has been sitting on the Barbie ottoman for a fair while now while her other sisters (mainly Catie) gets the attention.
Went out to town to run some errands too: get a new lightbulb for my room since the existing one decided it didn't want to work anymore last night, and also to get my dad a Father's day card (it's celebrated on the first Sunday of September here in Australia). Hopped on a tram home, and when the tram was approaching my stop, I realised that there were tram conducters checking tickets onboard. THEN, did I realised I didn't validate my stupid tram ticket. Ooooops. Thank goodness it pulled up to my stop just before they got close to ask me for my ticket, so I managed to get off trying not to look frazzled. *phew*
It's mid week Wednesday, the weather outside's gorgeous, and I'm indoors because it's the only way that's going to stop me spending money. :D Of course, there's the internet, but we shan't get into that, shall we? Spending time sewing up some new dolly clothes, so that my girls don't look like heathens when some of us Melbourne Blythe gang meet up for coffee, cakes and photos this Saturday. Decided that Sachi and Roo's going to make the meet this time since the poor girls have been thoroughly neglected for a fair while.
What's more exciting is that Sue's PWP, Vera, is having a birthday bash on September 10th! So we're going to be having a Blythe party - complete with ballons, party hats and other fun stuff. Should be good fun.
