How have people mispronounced your name? How is it supposed to sound?
Submitted by Lorie.
Well, I can't think of anyone that has mispromounced my name. It's easy. Jamie pronounced quite literally as "J-ME".
People do get my last name wrong though; but I'm sure many Asian people living in a predominantly western society would understand my grief. ;)
And slightly OT, people may not pronounce my name incorrectly, they sure do SPELL it wrongly! It's J-A-M-I-E, people. I know that there's alternate ways of spelling it (such as J-A-I-M-E), but really. I can excuse people who are just acquintances or people I've just met, but if you're a friend, please get it right? It's a pet peeve. :D
How do you take your tea or coffee?
Submitted by Vasquez.
Tea's over coffee on most days. It's my alternative to water, really. ;)
Tea: with proper milk (those 1% fat/skim/soy alternatives just don't taste the same), and no sugar
Bubbletea (lol): Green tea over red tea any day.
Instant coffee: Always with milk and 1 sugar
Other coffee: Whatever rocks my boat at the time. ;D
What's on your Top 5 video games list?
Submitted by mileena.
In no particular order:
1. Zelda: Wind Waker for GC
2. The Legend of Zelda for NES
3. Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire for GBA
4. Kirby 's Dreamland 3 for SNES
5. Contra III: The Alien Wars for SNES (yeah, I know. What the?!)
I'd add Animal Crossing to the list, but as fun as it is, it's pretty mindless and it gets boring after you've caught every single fish and bug and found every fossil and furniture sets. Not that I've done that, mind you. The stupid little dung beetle has eluded me (Wild World on DS) and is now the last beetle I have left to catch before I get my golden net. Stupid little thing. :D
All in all, can you tell I'm a hardcore diehard Nintendo loyal? Can't wait for the Wii!
How many pets have you owned in your lifetime? Tell us about them.
Maybe 50+? :)
We still have these two dogs in the photos - Max (Rough Collie) is at home with my dad, and Sydney (Bichon Frisé) is being cared for by my grams and uncle. Hopefully when we're more settled here in Melbourne, we can bring Max over. I'm not sure what would be the go with Syd though - I think it's cruel to seperate her from my grams if she's used to living there, and disrupt her life needlessly.
My sister and I also had 5 hamsters as pets in our lifetime, and I was crazy about them. How I wish the silly Australian Quarentine Office would let hamsters in the country. We also had way too many goldfish. The rough estimate would be around 40+, I'm guessing. My bedroom balcony at our old apartment unit ended up housing the fish tank. The fish tank took up the length of the tiny space (all of 2 metres worth). When we moved out of the apartment unit to a terrace house, we'd had already given the fish away to an uncle, but we then did some landscaping in the garden and had a pond, so more goldfish came to live with us again.
What's the last thing you usually do or think about before you fall asleep?
Play on my Nintendo DS! It's either Animal Crossing: Wild World, Nintendogs, or one of my old GBA games - currently, it's Pokemon Leaf Green. Just started a new game, and am trying to 'catch 'em all' again. :D
I love lying in bed right before bedtime, under the covers, feeling like a little kid again. I no longer have to sneak about and be afraid that I'll get caught though!
Are you a morning person or a night owl?
Thank you, architecture for making me a complete night owl.
I've always been more productive and efficient in the later part of the day, but since uni days from back in 2001, I've found that I usually can stay up till 4 to 5 am before feeling a need to fall into bed. And it's not that I'm out partying; even if I'm just reading a book or doing some other mundane stuff, I can't seem to fall asleep easily before 2am (at the earliest). While I was at uni, it wasn't uncommon for me to go to bed AFTER the morning cartoons at 8am either. I'd just sleep in till 1pm; assuming there wasn't any classes for the day.
It shites James to tears, of course, because he's a morning person, and can't function well after 11pm at night. Lousy. :D But at least him staying up late doesn't make him as big a grouch as me waking up before 10am. I'm HORRIBLE in the mornings, and should be completely seperated from any social contact because I'm nasty.
What's the last thing you crafted, constructed or created yourself?
I'm going to think outside the box for this one and say, the look/style that Sachi is wearing in the photo shoot we did today. ;)
I haven't been overly crafty since after Vera's dolly party where I made the 6 matching party dresses for the girls to wear, and think my sewing fever has subsided for a while now. But hey, I fully customised Sachi a couple of months back too, so that should count as being crafty.
She got a few inches trimmed off the ends of her fleecy hair, so it'll resemble more like dreadlocks. It goes well with the Fruits/Harajuku look in the photo too. Layering clothes on dollies seem so much easier than trying to do that for myself. Is it bad to lust over my dolls' wardrobe?
What do you collect?
The sharp-eyed one would probably have noticed that my Vox neighbourhood has a lot of people using pictures of a big headed, big eyed doll as their avatar, and that I tend to mentioned the doll pretty often. :) I don't know if 7 neos and 4 petites count as a collection (since I know some who truly have staggering numbers in the 20s and 30s), but I collect Blythe dolls. I've stopped being a obsessive collecter of anything after primary school. I used to have hundreds of 'em rubber bouncy balls - those that were dispensed from gumball machines, and also a huge collection of stickers (ahh, how I've missed my scratch and sniff ones!), and pencil erasers in all colours, shape and form. Oh, and not to mention a 40-something headcount of My Little Pony.I'm honestly thinking my Blythe collection isn't going to expand by much over the next couple of years; I like having a small number of dolls - it lets me dedicate time to each one of them. I also have a long haired Una called Moppina that needs attention. :)
One thing I still can't resist even today are capsule toys. Thank goodness Melbourne is a crap place for gashapon; otherwise, I'd see myself go mad with trying to get a full-set of something from the machines.
How many languages can you speak? Which languages can you read or understand?
Languages I speak: English, Mandarin (Chinese).
Dialects I speak: Hainanese, Hokkien, Cantonese (very very badly).
Languages I read/understand: English, Chinese.
I used to take French classes for 3 years back when I was 8-11, but I'll be damned if I remembered ANY of it! :)
What are your personal memories of September 11th?
I feel for the people that have lost their lives in the terror attack, and also for those living that were personally affected by it because they had lost loved ones on the day. The memory I have most distinctly about the day was getting a phone call from my neighbour across the hall (I was still living on campus in Newcastle at the time) late in the evening (AEST) to tell me to turn the telly on because 'World War III is just about to start'. And then from that moment till a couple of hours later, I was glued to the screen as the footages of the planes hitting the WTC, and the towers subsequently collapsing kept on repeating no matter which channel I turned to. I never felt a need for my family to be safe more than that day, even though they were in Singapore, and not in America.
I'm thankful that my loved ones and I have not had to go through these attacks, but I also wonder why people can't just get along. Simplistic and rather naive, I suppose, but wouldn't that be ideal.
